Today the Government announced plans to secure the future of the NHS with the publication of the NHS Workforce Plan, setting out the largest expansion in training and workforce in the NHS’s history.
In the coming years twice as many doctors and an extra 24,000 more nurses a year will be trained and more will be done to retain our brilliant NHS staff and reform the way the health system works to ensure it is fit for the future.
Lots more staff are being trained right here in the UK.
This is what the NHS has told the Government it needs to care for us into the future and that’s what this Conservative Government is delivering on.
So by 2037, there will be at least an extra:
* 170,000 nurses
* 60,000 doctors
* 71,000 healthcare professionals
Sherrie comments ‘I heartily welcome that the Government is backing the plan developed by the NHS to train and retain more staff to deliver patient care over the next 15 years. Labour's only plan for the NHS is an unwanted, unfunded, top-down reorganisation that would cost billions and is opposed by doctors.
It is vital that we provide the health service with the people it needs to cut waiting lists and deliver excellent patient care and it is only a Conservative Government that can and is taking the necessary action to deliver on this.’’
