For many families, joining the workforce can be challenging because of the cost of childcare.
The Government’s increase in childcare support for families on a low income is focused on removing barriers that currently prevent parents, and especially women, from going to work.
Commenting, Sherrie said, ‘’The Government's announcement today is really good news. For many low-income families losing working hours to minimise childcare costs can worsen challenges with the cost of living. So, these measures are not only supporting parents into work and allowing career progression, they will also directly help families with the cost of living.
We are already seeing the unemployment rate across the UK near a 50 year low. The latest figures show that the number of payroll employees sits at 29.8 million workers and now stands well above pre-pandemic levels.
Making work more accessible will continue to help bring UK unemployment down which in turn will help grow our economy.’’
