The Ukraine war has had a profound effect on energy costs and has led to household bills soaring and economic growth slowing around the world. Sherrie was pleased to see the UK Government step in to help families by paying up to half the typical energy bill over the winter months.
Sherrie commented, ''I agree with our Prime Minister when he said that the UK must go further to secure our long-term energy security and I was pleased when the Government announced their Powering Up Britain plan which will deliver cheaper, cleaner, British energy, slashing household energy bills and reducing our reliance on expensive imported fossil fuels.''
The Government’s multi-billion-pound plan, will deliver the next generation of British nuclear, a world-leading commitment to Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage and the hydrogen economy, which will help reduce household bills by increasing energy efficiency.
Sherrie adds, ''The Conservatives have a strong record of delivery for our energy security. Since 2010, the UK has seen £198 billion of investment into low carbon energy. Early investment in offshore wind means that we are global leaders in the sector, generating 21.5 per cent of the UK’s electricity in 2021. Thanks to early investment, not only do we have the world’s largest wind farm, but the second, third and fourth too.
I believe we are on the right track to ensure UK households will be protected from world events negatively impacting our energy bills.’’
