The Australia, United Kingdom and United States Trilateral Security Pact will see the next generation of nuclear submarines built to protect the stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
A collaboration on design by the UK, Australia and US will see a new ‘Hybrid’ nuclear submarine, bringing the best features of the British ‘Astute-class’ design and the advanced weaponry from the US ‘Virginia-class’ will be created to upgrade the naval capacity of AUKUS members, with the compatibility meaning each member would be able to share personnel, technology and ports. Many of these will be built in the UK.
Sherrie is pleased at the opportunity this will bring to the UK and has said: ‘'In addition to bringing skilled jobs to the UK, it is providing opportunities for young adults to gain employment and develop skills through training and apprenticeships.
Furthermore, this is a demonstration of how Brexit has unleashed our potential. Being able to collaborate with our allies and members of the Commonwealth in a way not previously possible, has made the UK agile, adaptable and competitive. The UK has a huge part to play in global security and prosperity.’'
