Ask Her to Stand

It was only 104 years ago that women won the right to stand for election!

Ask Her to Stand Day is a cross party programme led by 50:50 Parliament, who work to inspire, encourage and support women to stand for public office.

Sherrie commented, ‘’ I felt it was important to get involved and speak up at Ask Her to Stand Day ’22. Only one third of people in most public bodies are women and most women need to be asked at least three times to stand for public office. There are many talented women out there doing incredible things in their communities but for many reasons have never considered or even imagined themselves standing for local or national office. The message still needs to get out there. Effective policy is made with balanced representation and that’s why programmes such as this are so important.’’
